Resumo

Pinto peanut (Arachis pintoi Krap. and Greg) is a herbaceous, perennial legume, exclusively native to Brazil. It is considered a multiple use legume, being grown for forage; ground cover in fruits orchards, forest, and low tillage systems; erosion control; and ornamental purposes. In Brazil, four cultivars have been released: Amarillo MG -100, Belmonte, Alqueire e BRS Mandobí. In Brazil, despite the four cultivars available in the market, there is little information about the agronomical practices of pastures establishment of this species. Information such as the influence of seeding rate on the establishment of pastures in the Cerrado conditions are not offered. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing seed rates on the legume and weeds yield and ground cover 9, 11 and 13 months after sowing. Increasing seeding rate significantly decreased weed yield. The best results in ground cover, botanical composition and available dry matter of the legume were obtained with seeding rates of 16 to 20 kg/ha
